Our beautiful, purpose-built Stanley Wilson Lodge is a bright, welcoming and friendly place to call home.

Located in the pretty old town of Saffron Walden, we offer first-class facilities with spacious en-suite bedrooms, a range of communal spaces and lovely gardens in which to enjoy relaxing stroll.

As a family-run home, we specialise in high-quality respite care and long-term residential care, residential dementia, nursing and end of life care.

Our kind and caring team members, many of whom live locally in Saffron Walden, Newport and Great Chesterford, focus on supporting and engaging our residents in home life, always providing compassion, attention and choice for how people wish to live.

We also have a Day Centre, called the Saffron Club, where members of our local community join us for activities, home-cooked meals and to receive personal care and support during their stay with us.

The special people we care for, and the dedicated team we employ, together make Stanley Wilson Lodge a place to feel loved, safe, respected and very much at home.

“My husband has only been a resident of this care home for approximately 6 weeks but already he has settled in and become part of the community. The carers seem to know and understand all his strengths and weaknesses, nothing is too much trouble and they go about their work around the home in a cheerful and happy manner. Visitors and family are also included and made to feel welcome.”

“The nurses, carers and other staff have helped make a difficult transition a much less stressful and anxious process. The degree of compassion and patience exercised by the staff in often difficult situations is impressive, and all with a very willing smile.”

Relative of Resident

“My sisters and I were pleased with the care our mother received at Stanley Wilson Lodge.  We were incredibly impressed by the compassion and gentleness that your staff show your residents.  We know that our mother could not have been cared for in a better home.”

Relative of Resident

“We were fortunate that Mum was able to live at Stanley Wilson Lodge for her last year.  The entire team made her time as safe, affectionate and happy as it could have been.  We always found everyone – from the housekeeper and meal servers to the receptionists and carers – to be genuinely concerned for the welfare and happiness of residents and visitors. It creates a very attractive atmosphere in often challenging circumstances.”

Relative of Resident

“I cannot speak highly enough of the staff caring for my husband. They were gentle, respectful, warming and loving... I was made very welcome no matter what time I arrived each day and so was my dog. The family atmosphere and cheerful attitude of all the staff were lovely, especially as my husband became frailer. I cannot praise them all highly enough. They made a difficult time easier to bear. A big thank you, Stanley Wilson Lodge staff.”

Relative of Resident

Student Nurse

"My heartfelt thanks for all that Stanley Wilson Lodge did for my mother. She was very comfortable in your care and felt that this was home. Thank you all for doing such a wonderful job and for providing a happy and caring environment for my Mum’s final months – and also for supporting me."

Designed to support excellent care

Stanley Wilson Lodge - Excel Care-9128.jpgA modern care home, Stanley Wilson Lodge has been carefully designed to enhance the comfort, security and support for the people who live here.

The layout of the home is simple to navigate, with wide corridors and good lighting to help our less mobile residents and lifts on either side of the building enable easy-access to our three floors.

With more than 12m2 of space, all of our bedrooms allow ease of movement and independent living, with immaculate en-suites for total privacy. Residents are encouraged to make their rooms their own and decorate them with precious photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture if they wish.

Our home was built to encourage independence, as residents can choose how and where to spend each day, with the added reassurance that support is on hand as and when needed.

There are beautifully decorated communal living and dining areas on each suite for shared mealtimes and chatting with fellow residents, as well as tranquil quiet spaces throughout the home where people can relax, have a snooze or flick through a book in peace.

We are proud to have created an environment where care, contentment and relaxation, support our residents to have a wonderful quality of life.

Enjoying each and every day

Stanley Wilson Lodge - Excel Care-9091.jpgAt Stanley Wilson Lodge, everything we do centres on making sure residents lead full and happy lives.

Our dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators, in partnership with the rest of the team, put together a varied calendar of events which reflect residents’ interests, bringing everyone together to enjoy shared activities as well as form new interests or discover new skills.

We enjoy a wide range of activities and events, everything from arts and crafts classes to singing groups, visiting therapy dogs to live entertainers, movement to music to gardening, we ensure there is always something to bring fun and interest to residents’ lives.

At Stanley Wilson Lodge, we mark special occasions with delight, from Diwali to Christmas and Pancake Day to Easter. Family members are always welcome and regularly join us for birthday parties, barbecues, and even daily meals and afternoon tea. We like to feel that the residents’ families are part of our family.

We also love supporting residents to remain an active part of their local community and regularly welcome visits from nursery school children and community groups, as well as taking trips out to places of interest such as the seaside and dementia-friendly cinema screenings.

Saffron Club is our day centre that welcomes people from the community to spend time enjoying the company of others. Here they have the opportunity to join in a variety of activities, enjoy home-made hot meals, afternoon tea and cakes and access a range of facilities and therapies.

Our aim is always to help older people live brighter and more fulfilled lives – whilst giving peace of mind to the people who entrust us with their care.

Tailoring care to each resident

Stanley Wilson Lodge - Excel Care-9035.jpgAt Stanley Wilson Lodge, we put freedom of choice and respect at the heart of everything we do and everyone who lives in our bright and friendly home, is treated as an individual and their tastes and needs guide the care we give.

We recognise every person within our family is special and unique, so we spend time tailoring care and support specifically to each person’s needs and preferences, whether it’s massage therapy, furnishing their room in their own way or just sitting down and enjoying a chat. It’s about helping residents live as independently as they would like to with person-centred care on hand.

We promote independent thought too. Our weekly poetry reading groups allow people to share their favourites or discover new works, benefiting from the rhythms that reading poetry aloud creates. As a member of the University of the Third Age (U3A), we encourage ongoing learning and also organise a host of art classes where residents’ artwork is displayed with pride in the home, as well as trips to museums to keep minds active.

Our gardens are a focal point of Stanley Wilson Lodge, designed to provide sensory stimulation with raised flowerbeds and planters of fragrant plants. Resident gardeners get involved in planting and growing vegetables, which our chef uses in the fresh daily meals. The gardens also form a backdrop to many of our social events, including our visits from young children at local nurseries, who love playing outdoors.

Stanley Wilson Lodge is truly a remarkable place, where respect, dignity and choice are woven into how residents live their lives.
