Located on the outskirts of the market town of Huntingdon, and opposite the beautiful Riverside Park, Hartford, Hunters Down is a modern, purpose-built care home where residents are supported to enjoy every day.
Our dedicated team, many of whom live in Huntingdon, St Ives, Chatteris, and nearby areas, provide a range of long-term and respite care and support for people needing residential care, nursing care, nursing dementia care and end of life care.
At Hunters Down we offer spacious en-suite rooms in self-contained suites, each with its own communal living and dining areas and views over our lovely gardens. Our home has a truly warm and inclusive feel, and is at the heart of our community, which we’re very proud of. We enjoy regular visits from schools and other local groups as well as a wide range of meaningful activities and events and day trips out.
As a family-owned care home, we offer skilled care with compassion and kindness, always giving residents the choice about how they want to spend their day.
Our person-centred approach to care addresses each resident’s needs, interests and personal tastes and preferences, with special attention given to providing sensitive, high quality care for people nearing the end of their life – reflected in our Gold Standards Framework accreditation.
Hunters Down is an attractive and modern purpose-built care home, designed to support the people who live here to live a full and happy life.
Each bedroom features private en-suite facilities to support dignity and independence; we also recognise each person who lives here as an individual, and with this in mind we encourage everyone to make their room their own by bringing their personal belongings, precious photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture with them, if they wish. The spacious rooms make it easy for residents with mobility needs to get about, and multiple lifts ensure all areas of Hunters Down are fully accessible.
With five attractively decorated lounges and a range of quiet areas, people can choose where and how to spend their time.
Our two dining rooms provide the perfect place in which to enjoy our mealtimes, where home-cooked meals, lovingly prepared by our chefs and catering team, are served. Menus are created around residents’ likes and dislikes, whilst also catering for people with specific dietary needs and cultural preferences.
Our large garden is perfect for either relaxing on the patio or, for those with green fingers, a place to indulge their love of gardening with our beautiful flower beds offering a colourful display all year round.
We believe in enjoying the luxuries in life, so we have a cinema room with regular screenings, a library and a hairdressing salon, where residents can go to feel totally pampered and preened.
At Hunters Down we are ultimately focussed on ensuring each of the people living here are supported to have a high quality of life in an environment where everyone feels safe and at home.
At Hunters Down we put the people living here at the heart of everything we do. With this in mind we make sure getting to know each resident is one of our key objectives; helping us to meet their needs by organising events and activities that not only provide stimulation and fitness, but also offer quality of life to each person by enabling them the choice to participate in things they enjoy.
In addition to our regular activities such as cooking sessions, poetry readings, arts and crafts and gardening groups, we welcome the community into our home to spend quality time with the people who live here.
From entertainers who sing, dance and make music to community events and visits from local school children, there is always someone interesting a new to meet.
We also go to a local Memory Café and tea dances and often arrange day trips to nearby places of interest, including popular Hamerton Zoo, Hichingbrooke Country Park and the Raptor Foundation, home to injured birds of prey.
Our annual summer fête helps raise money for our Residents’ Comfort Fund, with all proceeds going towards enriching the lives of those who live here. The Comfort Fund helps towards organising visits to special places, entertainment and also granting the wishes of residents. We are involved with charity events for the Military Wives and Huntingdon mayor charity events.
Residents have a host of opportunities to spend quality time together as well as a variety of areas to rest and relax – enabling them to choose how they wish to spend their time, doing what they enjoy.
At Hunters Down, our dedicated team always respect each individual’s dignity, privacy and independence whilst still being close at hand when needed. Our experienced team members are skilled in making sure each resident receives the attention they deserve, always with compassion and respect – providing person-centred care, based on people’s health, social and wellbeing needs and preferences.
We use different memory techniques to assist those living with dementia. Our reminiscence therapy sessions help residents achieve a positive sense of wellbeing through sharing memories and life stories, while our memory tree in the garden sees residents honouring important people or events in their lives.
We are particularly skilled in supporting residents nearing the end of their life and, as a result, Hunters Down has been awarded Beacon status by the Gold Standards Framework, recognising the sensitive, compassionate care that we provide.
Our team members are trained to give each resident the right care at the right time, and we are always on hand to spend time with family members to support them too, offering our insights into their loved one’s condition and offering valuable advice on coping strategies.
We also offer work experience placements to young people with learning difficulties. Our young carers assist the nurses and care team and spend time chatting to residents over a cup of tea and a freshly made cake. The placements have been hugely successful for both residents and young care helpers.
