“I could not be more thrilled with level of service and professionalism at Etheldred. Everything had the feel of being incredibly well looked after. The staff came across fantastically well and were happy to answer our questions about the place and the care that would be given. They really put our minds at ease.”

Relative of Resident

“I love visiting Grandma. She's always happy and staff are always friendly and take good care of her - it's clearly important to them that she is content and their cheerfulness makes Etheldred a joy to visit. I know Grandma appreciates it too - she is always talking about the nice things going on. And that there are always biscuits!”

Relative of Resident

“Etheldred cared for my father and now my aunt. All the staff know me by name and show so much care for the residents. My aunt is happy and settled and I know I will be contacted with updates about her that cannot wait until my visit. I have recommended Etheldred to a number of people.”

Relative of Resident

"My father has advanced dementia and his behaviour can be quite difficult at times. The staff are compassionate not only towards him but to us as a family. They have ensured that we are kept fully updated about all of his care needs. I would recommend Etheldred to anyone looking for care as they always go above and beyond."

Services and Support
An outstanding approach to care

Excelcare-Etheldred-House-Care-Home-Gallery-Image1.jpgBright and modern, with traditional touches, Etheldred House is a family-run home where our team provides person-centred care to the special people who live with us, ensuring they are supported to remain as independent as possible, whilst spending their time doing the things they enjoy.

Residents, along with those closest to them, are actively involved in their care planning, which not only looks at what care needs a resident has, but also their emotional and wellbeing needs too – supporting them to have a great quality of life

Our sensitive and compassionate approach to care has been recognised through the National Care Awards, as well as our accreditation with the Gold Standards Framework which involves special training and a rigorous assessment to ensure our team and home provide a gold standard of care to people who are nearing the end of their life.

We make sure Etheldred House is a really fun and fulfilling place to be too, and have dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators who, in partnership with the people who live here, design events and activities to bring people together in a stimulating and engaging way.

Together, we make our home an inspiring and happy place to live every single day.

A stimulating and fun place to live

Excelcare-Etheldred-House-Care-Home-Gallery-Image2.jpgWhen it comes to residents enjoying themselves, our two Lifestyle Coordinators put together a brilliant range of activities, events and outings, with residents’ help. We even create personalised programmes for individuals that mix existing hobbies with opportunities to try new, fun activities.

Residents can catch regular film screenings whilst enjoying some fresh popcorn in our cinema room, which includes a mix of old favourites and newer finds. The cinema room doubles as an event space for fun family gatherings, celebrations and birthday parties, where everyone comes together to mark special occasions in style.

Our group activities, such as arts and crafts, a reading circle and regular visits from school children, take place throughout our home, and our beautiful gardens host relaxing sensory sessions. These sessions encourage residents to share memories with the team, other residents and family, enjoying different smells, textures and visual stimulus. It is a great way of boosting wellbeing and peace of mind, especially for those people living with dementia.

Residents particularly love visits from local entertainers, sing-alongs and pantomimes, which always have a great turn-out. We also regularly welcome members of the local community for events throughout the year, animals from the local petting zoo, and our own dog Lexi comes to visit every day.

A spacious home with help always at hand

Excelcare-Etheldred-House-Care-Home-Gallery-Image3.jpgSet over just two floors, Etheldred House has lots of space that residents can use just as they want. On the top floor is a sunny quiet room to relax, read or take a nap, while our cinema room, multidenominational prayer room and range of different lounges allow for different levels of interaction and socialising.

The two dining rooms on each floor are where everyone comes together during mealtimes to enjoy freshly cooked meals prepared by our kitchen team. Our brilliant chefs take each individual’s tastes, dietary needs and cultural backgrounds into account, and serve up a changing menu which also includes vegetables and fruit homegrown by residents in our own gardens.

At Etheldred House, we pride ourselves on the professional, person-centred care we give at all times. This includes encouraging residents to get involved in our Music for Health exercise classes, joining our reminiscence therapy sessions or just sitting having a cup of tea and a chat in our café.

Our highly skilled team always ensures residents receive sensitive, compassionate care, supporting them to remain happy, comfortable and content.

In the little village of Histon, five miles north of Cambridge, Etheldred House is a five-minute walk to the local shops, supermarket, pubs, post office and bank.

Our home is under ten minutes’ drive from the A14, A428 and A10, giving access to East Anglia, the Midlands and London, and just a short bus ride to Cambridge station. Our nearest bus stop is just a few minutes’ walk away, where the Citi 8 bus takes you into the city centre and the 110 to Ely.

Histon and neighbouring Impington are both attractive villages and good starting points for pleasant walks through the surrounding countryside. There are memorable day trips to be had in Cambridge with its many cultural, shopping and eating opportunities, as well as stunning Ely, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.
