A modern, purpose-built care home, situated in the leafy village of Histon north of Cambridge, Etheldred House is a friendly, welcoming place where residents are supported to live happy and contented lives.
Our team members, many of whom live in local areas such as Histon, Cottenham, Cambourne and Cambridge, have built a reputation for providing high quality, long-term and respite care for people who need residential, residential dementia, nursing and end of life care, which is Gold Standards Framework (GSF) accredited.
Our passionate approach is centred around family values and ensuring the people living at Etheldred House receive a high level of care, enabling them to live a sociable, happy and fulfilling life in a supportive environment, where their dignity and wishes are respected.

Bright and modern, with traditional touches, Etheldred House is a family-run home where our team provides person-centred care to the special people who live with us, ensuring they are supported to remain as independent as possible, whilst spending their time doing the things they enjoy.
Residents, along with those closest to them, are actively involved in their care planning, which not only looks at what care needs a resident has, but also their emotional and wellbeing needs too – supporting them to have a great quality of life.
Our sensitive and compassionate approach to care has been recognised through the National Care Awards, as well as our accreditation with the Gold Standards Framework which involves special training and a rigorous assessment to ensure our team and home provide a gold standard of care to people who are nearing the end of their life.
We make sure Etheldred House is a really fun and fulfilling place to be too, and have dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators who, in partnership with the people who live here, design events and activities to bring people together in a stimulating and engaging way.
Together, we make our home an inspiring and happy place to live every single day.
When it comes to residents enjoying themselves, our two Lifestyle Coordinators put together a brilliant range of activities, events and outings, with residents’ help. We even create personalised programmes for individuals that mix existing hobbies with opportunities to try new, fun activities.
Residents can catch regular film screenings whilst enjoying some fresh popcorn in our cinema room, which includes a mix of old favourites and newer finds. The cinema room doubles as an event space for fun family gatherings, celebrations and birthday parties, where everyone comes together to mark special occasions in style.
Our group activities, such as arts and crafts, a reading circle and regular visits from school children, take place throughout our home, and our beautiful gardens host relaxing sensory sessions. These sessions encourage residents to share memories with the team, other residents and family, enjoying different smells, textures and visual stimulus. It is a great way of boosting wellbeing and peace of mind, especially for those people living with dementia.
Residents particularly love visits from local entertainers, sing-alongs and pantomimes, which always have a great turn-out. We also regularly welcome members of the local community for events throughout the year, animals from the local petting zoo, and our own dog Lexi comes to visit every day.
Set over just two floors, Etheldred House has lots of space that residents can use just as they want. On the top floor is a sunny quiet room to relax, read or take a nap, while our cinema room, multidenominational prayer room and range of different lounges allow for different levels of interaction and socialising.
The two dining rooms on each floor are where everyone comes together during mealtimes to enjoy freshly cooked meals prepared by our kitchen team. Our brilliant chefs take each individual’s tastes, dietary needs and cultural backgrounds into account, and serve up a changing menu which also includes vegetables and fruit homegrown by residents in our own gardens.
At Etheldred House, we pride ourselves on the professional, person-centred care we give at all times. This includes encouraging residents to get involved in our Music for Health exercise classes, joining our reminiscence therapy sessions or just sitting having a cup of tea and a chat in our café.
Our highly skilled team always ensures residents receive sensitive, compassionate care, supporting them to remain happy, comfortable and content.
