As a family-run home, we believe that it’s the little touches that make all the difference. Whether it’s encouraging residents to personalise their rooms and bring their own furniture if they wish, so that their surroundings are familiar and homely, or knowing how someone prefers their tea, we are committed to making sure every detail is taken care of.
We also understand the importance of the residents continuing to play an active part in their local community. To support this, we regularly welcome groups to spend time with us, as well as organise special events, trips and visits out to local attractions.
As we are focused on providing the very best care, we keep up-to-date with the latest innovations in care giving to support our residents’ wellbeing. For example, our in-house chartered physiotherapist leads the progressive Otago exercise programme, a strength and balance retraining system specifically designed to aid physical wellbeing in older people.
Our team is also dedicated to maintaining and increasing their knowledge and skills through a variety of training classes. Here at Peartree, we particularly excel at caring for people nearing the end of their life, which has been recognised through our Beacon Status accreditation, the highest possible award given by the Gold Standards Framework.

Peartree has a relaxed environment to bring every resident peace of mind and comfort.
Our tranquil grounds are beautifully maintained and offer a year-round haven where residents can sit on the patio and listen to the calming sounds of the water fountain or, for those with green fingers, take an active part in caring for plants, flowers and vegetables.
We have also seen the many benefits of our research-backed, holistic Namaste programme which uses techniques based on touch and comfort, music and aromatherapy to help enhance our residents’ quality of life. We find the sensory stimulation refreshes and relaxes residents and is particularly beneficial to those living with advanced dementia.
At Peartree, we have plenty of quiet spaces for residents to relax in. This includes our delightful tea room, which serves delicious home-baked cakes, fresh sandwiches and pastries and is the perfect place to spend time with visitors. Alternatively, for those people who prefer a livelier pace of life, there are plenty of opportunities to socialise.
Each of our four floors has a large dining room which is filled with laughter and chatting during mealtimes where residents can choose from a varied menu, lovingly prepared by our catering team. The fresh, nutritious meals and snacks include resident favourites along with options for people with special dietary needs and cultural preferences.
There is also a spacious lounge on every floor, equipped with a flat-screen television and music system for shared time together.
Warm and friendly, with community at its heart
We appreciate that while some people like a relaxed, peaceful life, others enjoy company, companionship and fun, so we have a varied calendar of activities and events. We support residents to continue with existing hobbies and interests, as well as having the opportunity to try new things too.
Sydenham is a diverse and multi-cultural neighbourhood and therefore we maintain close links with the local community to keep inclusivity at the heart of everything we do.
We host frequent parties and gatherings to bring residents and their families together, celebrating everything from St Patrick’s Day and Black History Month to Christmas and Pancake Day – as well as each and every resident’s birthday – complete with a special home-baked cake.
Day-to-day activities include singing, creative arts and crafts sessions, quieter book and knitting clubs, lively quizzes, relaxing gardening and fun and energetic visiting entertainers.
As physical wellbeing is a top priority, we have a fully equipped gymnasium for residents to use freely, as well as a sensory room specially designed to promote relaxation and calmness through massage and other sensory techniques. Our hairdressing salon is always popular for those looking for a spot of pampering.
