On the northern edge of the historical city of Cambridge, Buchan House is a welcoming home providing both respite and long-term residential, residential dementia, dementia nursing, frail nursing and end of life care.
We offer a bright and friendly environment with a lively, social atmosphere, underpinned by a dedicated team, many of whom live locally and in the surrounding areas.
Our home has a variety of communal spaces and when residents want to get involved, there is a variety of activities, entertainment and outings on offer, making it a truly stimulating place to live.

Designed for living
Our family-run care home is situated in a lovely building and designed to support each resident to live a high quality of life.
Each of our 66 bedrooms has an en-suite toilet, some have a full en-suite bathroom, supporting residents to remain as independent as possible. We also have several interconnecting bedrooms for couples who wish to continue living together.
Bedrooms come fully-furnished and residents are encouraged to personalise them with their own belongings to create a space that is familiar and theirs to enjoy spending time in.
The home has been flexibly designed to bring the people who live here together for quality time in the company of others – and to enable them to spend time on their own if that’s what they prefer. Throughout the building and grounds, different areas allow both privacy and socialising, from our communal lounges and activities room to our quiet room and pretty courtyard.
Our dining rooms provide the perfect place in which to socialise during mealtimes and enjoy the array of freshly prepared meals, which include residents’ favourites and cater to dietary and cultural needs, created by our in-house team.

Buchan House has a truly unique atmosphere. Sociable and chatty, residents make our home a welcoming and comfortable place to live, with something going on every day to keep everyone engaged, entertained and connected.
Our highly trained team members are experts at responding to individual needs with care and compassion. Passionate about giving quality care 24 hours a day, they provide a safe, homely environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
We all love to see people enjoying themselves, so we ensure there is a variety of opportunities to continue with existing hobbies or try something new.
Our in-house Lifestyle Coordinator makes it happen, putting together a varied and lively calendar of activities and events, bringing residents together to enjoy a variety of opportunities from crafts, cooking and film screenings to trips to the seaside and shopping outings.
We also love to ensure special occasions are celebrated in style and organise parties to mark birthdays with friends and family.
We like to think that anything is possible at Buchan House, and go the extra mile to give everyone what they ask for – from activities and menu choices to preferences around how they receive their care and support. After all, it is their home.
A holistic approach to care
At Buchan House, we ensure the health and wellbeing of the people who live here is being met through working in partnership with healthcare professionals; so that they can live an active and fulfilling life through participation in fun light exercise classes to help with mobility, happiness and wellbeing.
Our reminiscence therapy and music therapy sessions are great ways of supporting memory, especially for those living with dementia, whilst things like animal encounters and gardening, support people to feel contented and fulfilled.
We actively support residents to remain connected to the local community as we appreciate it helps give them a sense of purpose and belonging.
With this in mind, we organise regular community events as well as visits from local toddler playgroups and high schools to bring different generations together over activities, games and simply through chatting to each other. We find these visits, in particular, benefit everyone involved.
