The warm and welcoming Ashlyn Care Home offers both long-term and respite care for people who require residential care, residential dementia care and end of life care, including care for those who have high dependency needs.
Close to Harlow town centre, we are committed to providing high-quality care and support with kindness, in a friendly environment - with facilities that support the residents, allowing them to live life to the full.
Our dedicated team, many of whom live locally in areas such as Stansted, Woodford Green and Church Langley, pride themselves on creating a real home from home, where residents have a sense of purpose, belonging and lead a high quality of life.
We support the people who live here to feel truly at home and their likes, dislikes, interests and opinions are what shapes it to be the special place that it is.
Our reputation for being a real home from home is for good reason, as our committed team provides person-centred care for the residents, caring for them as if they were members of their own family. This is evident in the tenderness, respect and attention to detail shown during their interactions with each person who lives here.
Truly understanding our residents enables us to tailor our care and what’s on offer, to each individual’s specific needs, making sure every resident is comfortable, engaged, happy, and feels right at home.
Our dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators work with the carers to ensure there’s always something fun and engaging to enjoy. We pay great attention to our mealtime experience which is often one of the highlights of our residents’ day, serving lovingly prepared home-cooked favourites.
The whole team ensure they are there to provide the sensitive support needed to make the transition into care is as easy as possible for residents and relatives. We have an open-door policy, and welcome people to visit their loved ones throughout each day – like one big family.
A low-rise building over just two floors, Ashlyn, is a family-run home, providing warm and welcoming lounges where you can often find our residents enjoying one of the many activities and events on offer.
In our dining rooms, we create a lovely mealtime experience where the people who live with us are able to tuck into a variety of lovingly prepared food by our superb catering team. The team produces fresh, seasonal, home-cooked meals, based on individual residents’ likes and dislikes, as well as dietary needs and cultural preferences.
Our residents’ bedrooms, many of which are en-suite, come fully furnished and are the perfect place to sit back with a good book or favourite TV show. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own belongings, including small items of furniture, creating a comfy and homely place to live.
For couples wishing to stay together, we have two lovely large bedrooms. We do everything we can to support couples' individual care needs so they can continue to enjoy life together in our warm and inclusive community.
A number of the bedrooms boast lovely views over our landscaped gardens, which provide a lovely setting to enjoy a breath of fresh air and our beautiful enclosed courtyard garden provides a safe and attractive spot to take in the surroundings.
Ashlyn is a sociable and inclusive place to live, with our Lifestyle Coordinators that work with individual residents and those closest to them, to pull together a varied calendar of one-to-one or group activities and events.
Residents can choose from a full programme of quizzes, board games, roulette, bingo and card games or develop their creativity with arts and crafts sessions. Our Movement to Music classes help to keep residents supple, healthy and promotes coordination. We also enjoy hosting themed parties for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentine’s Day, as well as celebrating resident’s birthdays with family and friends.
We’re great believers in the benefits of animal-assisted therapy and its ability to improve people’s social, emotional and cognitive functions.
With this in mind, we receive regular visits from the dogs at Pet Assisted Therapy, whose gentle and sensitive interactions support residents’ wellbeing.
Opportunities to interact with animals don’t stop there as we organise regular visits to Harlow’s Pets’ Corner – a small, friendly farm where residents are able to interact with pet pigs, goats, sheep, alpacas and even reindeer!
Harlow’s local community plays an active part in our home life – supporting the people who live with us to maintain community links.
Residents enjoy visits from local groups, churches of various denominations, as well as our intergenerational programme. This vibrant initiative sees students from local schools regularly visiting Ashlyn to spend time with residents, whether gardening, reading or sharing stories of what they’ve learned at school throughout the week. We find this intergenerational interaction is excellent for keeping the residents on their toes and has been particularly beneficial for our residents who live with dementia and those with high dependency needs – providing mental stimulation and encouraging their agility.
