Caring for 32 people, Aliwal Manor is a small, intimate care home with a big heart. We offer expert and personal care and support to people needing respite care and long-term residential care, residential dementia care and end of life care in a comfortable and attractive environment.
Our team members, many of whom live in the local areas of Whittlesey, Turves and Peterborough, pride themselves on their warm and friendly approach and develop strong relationships with residents, and those closest to them, to ensure a holistic and person-centred approach to care.
We also run a day centre once a week for elderly people living in the community to visit and help develop new friendships.
Small and friendly, Aliwal Manor offers residents a real home from home.
At Aliwal Manor, we believe in promoting independence and choice for residents throughout their day-to-day lives.
Our expert team spends quality time with individuals, as well as their family and friends, to build strong relationships and gain in-depth knowledge of residents’ likes, dislikes and personal preferences.
This enables us to provide personalised care and support to residents, whilst supporting family members to understand changes in their loved one’s conditions.
We understand moving into a care home is a big decision for people and we are dedicated to supporting individuals to make that transition into community life as easy and stress-free as possible.
As a member of The Cinnamon Trust, we’re there to support residents who have been fortunate to have the companionship of a small pet, retain the benefits of their much-loved animal by welcoming them to live at the home too. And for those residents who enjoy the calming and uplifting company of a dog, visitors often bring theirs along for a much-loved cuddle.
The intimate size of family-run Aliwal Manor is of real benefit, as the people who live here find they can easily feel part of our small, friendly home that puts support and harmony at the heart of everything we do.
All of our fully-furnished bedrooms overlook the beautiful gardens, ensuring we are all close to nature. To support people to feel at home, they are encouraged to personalise their rooms with treasured belongings such as photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture, if they wish.
There are four communal lounges where residents can relax with friends and family over afternoon tea or coffee, complete with home-made cakes and biscuits, as well as an activity lounge where we hold an abundance of activities.
Our dining rooms provide the perfect place to socialise during mealtimes, whilst enjoying our appetising home-cooked meals which are carefully tailored to residents’ likes and dislikes as well as any dietary and cultural needs.
At Aliwal Manor, we are able to accommodate couples too, as we believe in supporting people who want to remain living together in our home community.
Our beautiful gardens are a little out of the ordinary. Whilst well-kept greenery and raised flower beds create the perfect setting for a relaxing stroll, it’s our allotment full of fresh, seasonal produce for our meals, and our pet chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs which the people who live here really take delight in tending to and looking after.
In such an intimate environment, residents get to know each other well, and our home’s atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming.
Birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions are celebrated in style, complete with lovingly-made cakes, and we have a full calendar of activities and entertainment based on peoples’ tastes.
As well as supporting existing hobbies and interests, we also actively encourage residents to take part in new activities to gain new experiences, developing friendships and helping everyone feel a part of our home family.
We use movement to music sessions to support positivity and wellbeing, providing engagement and fun, whilst our arts and crafts workshops promote creativity in a supportive environment.
The people who live here delight in their regular visits from a local children’s group, who come along to spend time here chatting, laughing and often enjoying a spot of messy play together!
We also believe in the benefits of connecting to the outside world, and welcome the local community into our home for events as well as take day trips out to places of interest.
Our day centre also sees local like-minded people and their families become part of the Aliwal Manor community as they visit during the week to take part in daily activities, enjoy home-cooked meals and receive care and support.
