Nicola, a Lifestyle Coordinator at Hunters Down Care Home in Cambridge, recently sat down with Joan who lives at the home, to listen to the story of Joan’s life.
Joan is a vibrant member of the Hunters Down family, and loves wine, nature programmes like David Attenborough, classical concerts, and Elvis music. She also really enjoys swimming and visiting churches to view the architecture.
Joan was born in Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, but moved to St Neots later on in her life. She trained as a teacher and worked in the field until she retired because she liked it so much. Joan taught 4–9 year olds in all subjects, but her favourite subjects to teach were PE, English and Maths.
Joan has two beautiful daughters named Joanne and Sarah, who have also given her two grandchildren. Growing up, their family had lots of pets, from dogs to cats to rabbits to guinea pigs. They also used to love family holidays, and travelled to Norfolk, France, and Spain for long trips, but also took shorter day trips to the countryside.
Now, Joan spends her days living at Hunters Down Care Home, and actively gets involved in the activities at the home. Her favourite home activities include arts and crafts, cookery, and gardening. She is also partial to a good quiz but says that “her brain is not what it used to be”.
