Recently, the people living at Ashlyn Care Home in Harlow had a Guinea Pig Therapy session at the home.
Animals always go down well at Ashlyn, as the residents love a furry friend to cuddle with. Because of this, the team spent time researching different animals that could come into the home for everyone to sit and stroke. Everyone was ecstatic when they heard that there would be guinea pigs visiting, as they are not an animal that they’ve had visit before!
The pets made themselves right at home, cuddling up on people’s laps and making everybody smile. The residents kept commenting on how soft their fur was, having a good stroke of the happy animals. Everyone was also given a chance to feed the guinea pigs, which many found very exciting and new.
The guinea pigs encouraged plenty of reminiscence, as some of the residents had owned guinea pigs in the past. They shared stories about their own old pets, and some funny habits that guinea pigs tend to have, which prompted many laughs from the room.
It was a wonderful pet therapy session, and the home will certainly be having more of these in the future!
