The people living at Aliwal Manor Care Home in Cambridge regularly enjoy flower arranging sessions. These flowers are sourced by Lifestyle Coordinator Sarah from local florists, and once they are arranged, they are placed all around the home and even in some people’s bedrooms if they desire.
During a recent sunny day, some of the people in the home were already sat in the garden soaking up the sun whilst enjoying a cup of tea. So, Sarah asked the people inside if they would like to join them in the garden for a fun flower arranging session.
The dishes were filled with oasis and the flowers were all laid out for people to choose from. There were various colours and types of flowers, so that everyone could make their own decisions as to what they wanted. While the activity was in motion, Sarah also googled an assortment of flowery songs for them all to listen to, or even sing along to if they knew the words.
One popular song was called ‘Wearing flowers in your hair’. Norah had already put a few flowers in her glasses case for later, so when the song started playing, she took them out and put them in her hair, making everybody smile.
The activity was a great success, and everyone enjoyed completing such a peaceful activity whilst reminiscing.
