Recently, the team at Abbot Care Home organised a wonderful trip out into the local community to enjoy the lively pantomime Robin Hood at the Harlow Playhouse.

From the moment everyone stepped onto the minibus, it was clear that everyone was excited for the show. The journey quickly turned into a sing-along, with familiar songs from Robin Hood getting everyone in the mood.

On arrival, the welcoming team from Harlow Playhouse supported people to find their seats and made sure everyone was sitting comfortably. The first half of the pantomime was full of humour and interaction, sparking laughter and conversation during the interval as everyone shared just how much they were enjoying the experience. The second half certainly lived up to expectations, with plenty of toe-tapping songs and the much-loved line, “he’s behind you!”, bringing even more laughter and joy to the group.

This special outing was inspired by a request from the people living at Abbot Care Home, who expressed an interest in attending an Easter pantomime. With a strong focus on creating meaningful experiences, the team regularly listens to what individuals would like to do and work hard to make those ideas a reality. Trips like this truly highlight the importance of staying connected to the community, with one person sharing, “It’s great to be out and about doing something fun.”

The day brought a real sense of happiness and togetherness, with another comment capturing the spirit perfectly: “It’s nice to be able to still enjoy ourselves no matter how old we are.” Judging by the smiles, laughter, and animated conversations on the journey home, it’s safe to say the trip was a great success—and one that many would love to repeat.

Experiences like this are made possible thanks to the support of local community transport, the fantastic team at the playhouse, and the dedicated team members at Abbot Care Home. Their continued commitment to creating meaningful moments helps to ensure that life at the home is filled with enjoyment, connection, and plenty of reasons to smile.
