Residents of Abbot Care Home in Harlow recently embarked on a wintery walk to the Griffin Café for lunch.
The people living at Abbot enjoy taking trips into the local community and meeting people who live in their local area. Not only do they like making new connections, but these interactions also support individual well-being and keep residents connected with things happening in the local community.
As the weather was cold outside, and the café was a little too far to walk to, residents took their wheelchairs and wrapped up in warm blankets. Loved ones and team members supported people in their wheelchairs to the café. Along the way, local people helped them to cross the road, tooted their horns, waved, and made them feel like local celebrities!
After arriving at the café, residents said hello to the people already seated, which sparked conversations and prompted interesting stories to be shared. Some children in the café also came over to speak with residents, which was a welcome surprise and raised many smiles.
The team in the café was very supportive and did everything they could to make this a memorable visit for the residents of Abbot. The food was delicious too and everyone agreed it was a wonderful way to start the day!
After such a positive experience, we’re sure the team and residents from Abbot will be visiting the Griffin Café again very soon!
