Residents at The Willows Care Home in Milton Keynes have been enjoying a fantastic partnership with MK Dons Football Club, giving them the opportunity to stay active through football-themed fitness sessions and experience the excitement of live matchdays.
As part of the partnership, the MK Dons Community Team visits Excelcare's Milton Keynes homes each week to deliver engaging chair-based exercise sessions using footballs and fun, football-inspired activities. The sessions encourage gentle movement while creating plenty of opportunities for laughter, social interaction and friendly competition.
The partnership extends beyond the care home too, with residents invited to attend MK Dons fixtures throughout the season.
Earlier this year, residents and team members from The Willows enjoyed a memorable trip to Stadium MK to watch MK Dons take on Bromley. Seated in one of the stadium's accessible viewing areas, everyone was able to enjoy the match comfortably, including residents who use wheelchairs.
The excitement started almost immediately, with MK Dons finding the back of the net in the opening minute. Residents joined home supporters in celebrating the early goal and embraced the electric atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
For many, the visit brought back treasured memories of following football throughout their lives. Being back in a bustling stadium, cheering on the team and sharing the occasion with others created meaningful moments that will be remembered long after the final whistle.
The partnership with MK Dons continues to make a positive difference to residents' wellbeing, combining regular physical activity with unique community experiences that promote confidence, connection and joy.
Although the football season is currently on its summer break, residents are already looking forward to returning to Stadium MK and creating more special memories when the new season begins.
