The residents at Goldenley Care Home have been taking part in a tropical garden project during this period of 'lockdown'. Working with Faith, the Lifestyle Coordinator, they have created a colourful, indoor space where they can go to relax or socialise with friends.
As it's been so popular, Faith asked the residents if they'd like to continue to theme into their garden, which they all agreed would be nice! So this week, residents and team members collaborated to give the space a themed makeover.
Before the home began limiting visitation, people from the Prince's Trust had started to renovate the space by painting the planters and plant pots. This gave the residents a head start, meaning they could start filling them with flowers.
Faith had already bought a selection of plants from money raised at previous fundraising events. Small palms and ferns were some of the plants they used, helping to continue their tropical theme.
Evelyn and Val are residents at Goldenley Care Home, both of whom are talented gardeners and had a great time positioning and planting the small trees. During the activity, the residents shared connected memories that came to mind.
Val said, "I used to love my gardening and sitting in the sun of course". With her help, this new garden space let her continue this hobby and hopefully, in time for summer!
This garden project is keeping the residents happy and focussed, whilst encouraging safe, outdoor activity during this 'lockdown' period.
Over the next couple of weeks, the team and residents will add the finishing touches to their garden space, creating another tropical haven at Goldenley!
