Residents at Goldenley Care Home recently welcomed the TLC Orchestra to perform some live music with a range of string, wind, and percussion instruments.
The people living at Goldenley enjoy the whole experience of live music. Seeing the musicians play in time with one another to create music always raises smiles, and the rich sounds that fill the room is something music on a CD can’t quite replicate. Live music also helps to bring back fond memories from the past of shows and concerts people attended.
Ahead of the visit from TLC, Lifestyle Coordinator, Faith decorated the room with glitter balls that residents made during arts and crafts sessions, and also purchased some shiny tiaras that people could wear throughout the performance.
When the orchestra arrived at Goldenley and began setting up, residents were admiring the instruments and sharing connected memories. Some of the people in the room played instruments in their younger years so they were especially excited to watch the orchestra perform.
As the music played, residents were moving along to the music in their chairs and clapping in time. The orchestra played a range of different songs, from upbeat music to slow, relaxing songs. This included music from 'Beauty and the Beast', the 'Blue Danube', and the Funny Policemen song from 'Gilbert and Sullivan'. The nostalgic music also aided reminiscence and brought back happy memories. Towards the end of the performance, Lifestyle Coordinator, Faith showed off her vocal talents by singing along to a song or two. This was enjoyed by all, and Faith received a big round of applause for her performance.
When residents were asked if they enjoyed the session, Brenda said, “I loved the music from the show and singing along to the songs I knew,” whilst Robert said, “I couldn’t stop smiling throughout, especially at the policeman song.”
It’s safe to say the TLC Orchestra raised smiles and the wellbeing at Goldenley so they will definitely be invited to perform again soon!
