The team at Abbot Care Home recently hosted a variety of games in their activity room inspired by viral videos they had seen on Tik Tok.
Using just a table and some household items, the team set up some games to encourage friendly competition among the people living there.
The first game was a well know classic, ping pong. The table was set up with a barrier of books in the middle in place of a net. Residents then paired up and played games against each other with their friends cheering along from the side.
The table was then transformed for the second game, which was a real-life version of retro tennis. To set this up, the team put books around the edge of the table to stop the ball from rolling off. Players were then given empty glove boxes, which they used as the ‘bats’. As they hit the ball back and forth, points were scored when their opponent missed the ball and it rolled off the table. It was a creative way to recreate the game and made use of items that would have otherwise been thrown away. Some people said they remember the retro digital game, but agreed this version was much more fun.
The last game was more of a challenge that everyone could get involved with. The team put a cloth on the table with a small hold in the middle. People were then challenged to roll the ball and land it in the middle of the circle. This proved much more difficult than they originally thought, but it made for a fun way to end the session.
These Tik Tok inspired activities went down well with the people living at Abbot and residents said how much they enjoyed the afternoon. These inexpensive and simple games kept everyone entertained and proved engaging afternoons don’t have to be expensive, simply taking part in new games with friends can provide just as much fun!
