The people living at Sweyne Court Care Home have been working on a window display over the last few weeks, ready for Dementia Awareness Week which is being celebrated this week.
In theme of the week, they took inspiration from the Forget me not flower and decided to make a large one to feature as part of their display.
To do this, they drew out the shape of a forget me not flower and stuck different coloured pieces of scrunched-up tissue paper to it to bring the flower to life. To add to this, residents also used the same technique to create a sign which read ‘Forget me not’ to also feature in the window display.
Engaging residents in this awareness week is important, as many of the people we care for live with dementia, so spreading awareness of it and involving them in a creative way is beneficial for all.
It took a whole week to complete the window display, but everyone enjoyed working together to create something colourful and day by day, seeing their design come to life.
The display was ready just in time for Dementia Awareness Week this week, and team members at the home have also been wearing blue to spread awareness of the week and Dementia.
