The people living at Hunters Down Care Home in Huntingdon had a wonderful time visiting their local primary school this season, to watch the children perform in their Nativity play.
The residents were treated to not one, but three performances, which took place on different days throughout December and starred different age groups from the school.
Each performance was absolutely magical, and the residents couldn’t contain their smiles as they watched. The students were absolutely amazing in each performance, and everyone agreed there were different highlights for each one.
The first performance from the 4–5-year-olds was adorable, and everyone enjoyed watching them sing and dance in their costumes. They happily got up to sing along to ‘Away in a Manger’ with the children as well. The second show from KS1 was called ‘Lights, Camel, Action!’ and took a more creative approach to the classic Nativity, presenting it as a talent show. This play in particular had the audience laughing the entire time!
Joan, Gerry, Jean, Rita and Tony enjoyed the shows very much, and Tony was incredibly happy that he was able to attend multiple shows. After the performances they had a chat with the children about their hard work, and one of the boys’ showed Rita has script for the play. This was also a great chance for Joan to reminisce as she has a strong theatre background and has even directed some Nativity plays in her time!
As there was a limit on the number of people who could attend the Nativity plays, St John’s choir visited the home the next day to sing some Christmas carols for everyone. The morning was filled with festive cheer as the children sang the songs beautifully.
Intergenerational relationships like this are so crucial to the people living in our homes. They have been shown to improve the attitudes, behaviours and quality of life for both the children and the adults involved. After seeing the impact these two events had on everyone’s wellbeing, the team at Hunters Down have resolved to have plenty more activities like this in the coming year.
Everyone at Hunters Down would like to extend a big thank you to the children of St John’s Primary School for helping to make their Christmas extra special!
