Wednesday 5th May was an extremely busy day at St Fillans Care Home in Essex, as everybody gathered together to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over France at the battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862. The team at the home wanted to do the day justice, and so put together as many Mexican inspired activities as they could.
The people living at the home celebrated the day in style, starting by making a Piñata. The team gathered loads of coloured tissue papers and materials, and everybody worked together to make a very wonderful looking Piñata. Once they were finished, it was filled with sweets, ready to use later.
Once they were done with their craft activity, they all sat and relaxed as the team brought around a trolley full of yummy Mexican fruits, including mangoes, prickly pear and many more. The residents tucked into the fruits and were big fans of the varied selection.
After this, it was finally time to bring out the Piñata! Everybody had a great time having a go at hitting it, and after a while the Pinata opened, revealing a tasty variety of sweets.
Cinco de Mayo was a big success at St Fillans Care Home, and they look forward to celebrating more fun days like this in the future.
