The people living at The Willows Care Home in Milton Keynes love spending time in their garden and admiring nature in the warmer months, so throughout winter, nature spotting is mostly done through the windows.
When the team were sitting and watching the garden with residents this week, they spotted a special bird land in one of their garden trees. After getting closer, they saw it was a colourful cockatiel that was hiding away from the magpies.
Knowing that this was most likely someone’s pet, team members Aimee and Ange were determined to help reunite the cockatiel with its family. So Aimee and Ange worked together to carefully remove the bird from the tree and take it inside the home. The people living there were very excited to see such a colourful bird and took the opportunity to stroke it. You could tell that it was someone's pet, as it was so tame and welcomed interactions with people.
After people had said hello, Aimee and Ange then put the bird into a small box and took it around the corner to the Willow Veterinary Clinic to see if they could help to reunite it with its owners.
Using the power of social media, they were able to track down the birds’ owners and they came shortly to collect their bird, which was called dimples.
It was a special and heart-warming day that ended with smiles on everyone’s faces.
