Sherrell House residents recently celebrated National Museum Day by taking a trip to the Natural History Museum.
The opportunity to visit the big city was exciting, as most people hadn’t been there in years. Thinking about their upcoming trip brought back lots of memories, from visiting attractions and spending time in London. Lots of these stories were shared whilst travelling to the museum, which made for some interesting discussions and got everyone excited to make some new memories with their friends.
When the group arrived in London, they enjoyed taking in the sights and seeing how much London has changed. It was much bigger and busier than lots of people remembered, but they enjoyed admiring the hustle and bustle.
The first exhibition the group visited was the Earth Hall, which housed different sculptures and galleries that told the story of our solar system. Some of the most popular items amongst the residents of Sherrell House were the moon rock and precious metal displays. They were really excited to see these items in person and took some time to admire them.
The next exhibit was the Volcanoes and Earthquakes gallery. This featured lots of interactive games and diagrams of how the forces in the world shape our planet. Those who felt brave then tried out the famous earthquake simulator!
Before heading to the Bird Gallery, the group stopped at the on-site café for a hot drink. Whilst enjoying some rest, they spoke about the things they each found most interesting from their visit so far. Some said the lava bombs, volcanic glass and crystals were the most fascinating as they were amazed to think these beautiful things are created naturally.
The Bird Gallery was the final stop of the tour. Residents who attended love admiring the sights and sounds of nature in their garden, so the opportunity to see rare, extinct and endangered birds up close was appreciated by the whole group.
Before heading home, the group stopped off at a local McDonalds to enjoy some tasty comfort food. It was a wonderful day and talk about their trip continued long into the evening – this is always a good sign and residents can’t wait for the next adventure with their friends.
