It was an all singing all dancing day at Sherrell House recently as they joined in with celebrations for National Dance Day.
Although music and dancing is part of the daily schedule at Sherrell House due to the benefits this has to mental and physical health, they wanted to make this day extra special by inviting in some entertainers to perform.
One of these acts was a drummer, who plays traditional Lebanese drumbeats and the other was a belly dancer. This was a change to the usual entertainers that the team welcome into the home, but they wanted to mark this day and introduce them to another culture and style of music in the process.
When both of the acts arrived, they introduced themselves, explained a bit about their performance and the history of it. Residents enjoyed learning more about the Lebanese culture and admiring the colourful clothes they were both wearing.
The performance then started, and people were immediately impressed. The upbeat drumming encouraged people to tap and clap along and the belly dancer was very exciting to watch. The way she moved in time with the music was wonderful to see and people were complimenting how impressive it was.
After the act had finished, the drummer went around and gave people the opportunity to have a go at playing some beats. He took the time to give people a tutorial but also gave themthe opportunity to create their own beats.
People were then given the opportunity to have a go at belly dancing. This was well enjoyed by the residents, but they all agreed it was much more difficult than it looked.
It was an interactive session that engaged each and every person, whilst giving them a taste of Lebanese culture in the process.
Although National Dance Day is over, the dancing won’t stop at Sherrell House!
