The people living at Queens Oak Care Home in London recently took a trip down memory lane during a reminiscence therapy session.
The team at Queens Oak like to use a reminiscence box to conduct their memory-filled sessions. These boxes each have a specific theme and are packed with nostalgic items that people can hold and share their own memories about. There are seven different themes to choose from, so there is truly something to delight everyone.
This particular box contained a fantastic collection of famous pictures from the Wallace Museum’s collection. This was fantastic, especially for the people living at the home that love paintings. Many of them delighted in holding the photos in their hands, and recounting their stories of their past museum trips, and their favourite galleries.
This led to a hearty discussion about everyone’s favourite places from the past, and the Lifestyle Coordinators encouraged everyone to engage all of their senses, describing sights as well as how things felt, tasted, smelled and sounded. The whole discussion was a great way to learn about everyone’s lives, as well as listen to some amazing stories from their youth.
The session had great feedback, with everyone leaving with big smiling faces. The team can’t wait to host their next reminiscence session, with a new box and many cups of tea.
