The people living at Goldenley Care Home in Benfleet were delighted to welcome back the Purple Lions Nursery after almost four years since their last visit.
The team at Goldenley regularly organise for local groups to come and spend time with residents or take part in activities with them, as it provides people with the opportunity to make new friends and maintain connections to the local community. Visits from school children is also a regular event on the activity schedule, as intergenerational sessions have a profound impact on residents' wellbeing.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought life to a halt in the UK, visits from local schools and groups also had to be paused. The Purple Lions Nursery was one of the local groups that would visit the care home regularly and take part in activities with the people who live at Goldenley, but these visits also stopped due to the pandemic.
After almost four years, the Purple Lions Nursery recently returned for a morning of fun with the residents.
Everyone at Goldenley was delighted to see the children and their teachers. There was plenty of catching up to do and so they sat and spoke about the activities and events that have taken place since their last meeting, whilst the children told them about the things they had been learning!
The group then sang some songs together, and the children even performed one song in sign language! Residents were very impressed by this and gave them a big round of applause.
Mary, who lives at Goldenley said, “What wonderful children they are, and they have such good manners.”
After the success of the session, The Purple Lions Nursery will be returning on a weekly basis so they can make more happy memories together.
