Residents of Primrose Croft Care Home recently came together to look back at family memories for National Brothers Day.
This is a day that allowed residents to socialise and tell stories about their brothers. Not all of the residents had brothers but some had brothers-in-law or friends who were like brothers, so this day gave them the opportunity to share their connected stories too!
Ursula started off the storytelling session, by sharing the memory of when her brother was born. She said she didn’t want a sibling at the time, but when he arrived she said “he is so cute.” She recalls the nurse replying, “You did not want a brother though” and responding, “well he is here now so we best keep him.” This made her and the other residents chuckle.
The group then looked at some famous brothers throughout history and their achievements. The first being Wilbur and Orville Wright, better known as the Wright brothers. They were American inventors and pioneers in the aviation field for achieving the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight. Many of the residents remembered the history of the brothers and enjoyed looking back at some old pictures and videos. Derek, a resident of Primrose Croft knows about the Wright brothers and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with the group.
The group also looked back at the Marx brothers who were an American comedy act, popular on stage, screen and radio for 30 years. They became well known for their comical attacks on society and soon known best by their stage names which were Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Gummo and Zeppo.
Residents thought their acts were very funny when they watched back some old clips.
It was an enjoyable day spent reminiscing together and learning about iconic figures from the past. The residents look forward to the next national day celebration and the connected memories it brings back.
