Last week, friends of Ashlyn Care Home, Passmores Academy, sent a large postal delivery of letters and drawings to the residents.
Before this period of limited visitation, students from the academy would visit the care home, take part in activities with the residents and attend events on occasion, so they have each made some good friends. To spread some joy and show the residents they were still in their thoughts, the students made some colourful works of art and wrote personal letters to each of the people living at Ashlyn.
When the delivery arrived at the care home, team members set it aside for a 'control period' to limit potential risk from the outside.
This week, team members split and delivered the post to each of the residents. They were surprised to find a variety of handwritten notes, drawings and old-fashioned letters in the envelopes. Everyone enjoyed reading the notes and seeing the artistic talents of each student.
The letters were especially touching for each of the residents. They included the students' hopes for the future and dreams about their careers after school. Personal thoughts and well wishes were also included for the residents and their families to keep safe during these unusual times.
It made for an enjoyable afternoon at the care home, with residents comparing letters and pinning drawings on their bedroom walls. As the residents aren't able to see their loved ones currently, this was very special to them and helped to brighten the mood at Ashlyn.
Thank you to our friends from Passmores Academy for the special delivery, we send our love and thoughts to you all and look forward to seeing you again.
