Peter is a resident of Hunters Down Care Home in Cambridge and recently enjoyed reminiscing with Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead, Pearl.
Peter used to live locally in a place called Alconbury, coincidently, the same place the Pearl lives now. The people living in Alconbury have set up a Facebook group, where local residents share pictures from yesteryear and stories about how the village has changed.
Pearl thought it would be nice to show Peter some of these pictures as he may recognise some of the more traditional images.
To start the session, Pearl printed a large photo of a school class from some years ago. This delighted Peter as he was one of the children in the photo and was able to name of few of his friends who featured in the picture. One of the people he pointed out was Robert, who remained a close friend and was the best man at his wedding.
This brought back many wonderful memories for Peter and he had a big smile on his face as he told Pearl the connected stories.
Peter was then shown some of the posts from the Alconbury Facebook group, which included black and white photos of how the village used to look. Peter looked through the comments and recognised many of the names of people who wrote on them. He said, “Those days were very different, everyone knew each other and the village was much smaller.”
Peter thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing with Pearl and looking through the old pictures. Pearl then posted the picture of Peter and his class on the Facebook page, which amassed 34 comments from local people. Some of these responses included pictures of school productions, including one where Peter played a shepherd.
Other local people posed questions for Peter, which he enjoyed responding to and telling stories from his younger years.
It was a wonderful afternoon and one that helped to reconnect Peter with memories and people from his past.
