Pat lives at Stanley Wilson Lodge Care Home in Saffron Walden and recently started a campaign to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Pat has a collection of dolls that she fondly cherishes but decided to donate one for her fundraising campaign. She decided to use the doll to start a ‘name the doll’ game, where people would pay one pound to enter, and whoever guessed the correct name would win the doll!
When her friends heard about her charitable efforts, they were all keen to get involved and see if they could guess the doll’s name.
Everyone took turns picking names from the list that had been created. Once all of the names had been chosen, Pat announced the name of her doll was ‘Annie’, making her friend Ethel the winner of the competition. Ethel was delighted to win the doll and has proudly displayed it in her bedroom. In total, Pat managed to raise £55 for Macmillan Cancer Research which she was very proud of.
Seeing Pat’s charitable efforts got other people thinking about what they could do to help.
Rene lives at Stanley Wilson Lodge and enjoys playing the bonus ball draw every week. This is where people pay £1 for a lucky number and if that number is drawn as a bonus ball in the lottery on Saturday they win half of the money collected, whilst the other half goes towards the resident’s comfort fund.
Rene was the lucky winner of a rollover draw recently and won £68. Rather than keeping it though, she decided to donate half of the money to Macmillan Cancer Research and the other half to the resident’s comfort fund.
Combined with the money that Pat raised, they had a total of £89 to donate to Macmillan. It made everyone feel good raising money for a life-saving charity and they took pride in writing out the cheques and sending them off.
Everyone had lots of fun in the process so we’re sure there will be plenty of other fundraising days at Stanley Wilson Lodge.
