Last week, as the weather soared to incredibly high temperatures, the team at Park Avenue Care Home in Bromley endeavoured to keep everyone cool and comfortable.
The chef provided everyone with some juicy slices of watermelon, which they were very excited to use to make smoothies. So, Lifestyle Coordinator Gladys got together with some eager residents and set up a smoothie making station.
Everybody got stuck in, excited to scoop the watermelon from the bowl and into the blender. Gladys let people take it in turns to press the blender button, watching it whir to life and turn their fruit into a drink.
This activity was part of a hydration project that is taking part across the whole of the Excelcare family, encouraging everyone to stay hydrated and get the fluids that they need during the hot summer weather. Not only do the smoothies keep everyone cool, but they also contain a variety of vitamins and minerals that provide good health benefits!
Anthony was a particularly big fan of this experience, and it proved a good opportunity for him to develop a new interest. The home will certainly be hosting more smoothie making sessions in the future, especially if the temperatures continue to climb.
