The people living at Okeley Care Home in Chelmsford were recently discussing the environment and during this, spoke about some of the important things that help to keep it flourishing. One person mentioned the importance of bees to wildlife and the environment, which got people thinking about these small but beneficial creatures.
World Bee Day was a chance for everyone to celebrate the important roles that Bees play and also, the delicious things that the honey they make can be turned into.
Alongside a cup of their favourite hot drink, residents were served a slice of honey cake. This went down and treat, and one person said how without bees, they wouldn’t be able to enjoy this delicious cake.
The team also wanted to involve visitors in their celebrations, so anyone who entered Okeley on the day was gifted with some honey and some seeds, that they could plant at home to attract bees into their garden.
The people living at Okeley also used the opportunity to plant some more seeds in their garden, so hopefully, they can bring in more bees and fuel them with the nectar and pollen they need to survive.
