The people living at Okeley Care Home were recently delighted to be invited to a musical event hosted by the Alzheimer’s Society called Singing for the Brain.
Music is known to have many benefits, particularly for people who live with dementia. Not only does music bring joy, raise smiles and boost wellbeing, but it can also be a very powerful reminiscence tool and bring back fond memories from the past.
The Alzheimer’s Society host these sessions to bring people in the community together to sing, socialise and share memories in a fun and friendly environment.
The people living at Okeley were excited for this musical afternoon and arrived at Chelmsford Cathedral, where the event was being hosted, just after lunch.
During the session, residents sang along to songs from the 70s and danced in their chairs when their favourites were played.
Each person who attended the session said it was a lovely day out. They all enjoyed the music and said it took them back to their younger years.
Before heading back to Okeley, they had a cup of tea and a biscuit with the other people who attended.
Residents said that they hope this event takes place again soon, as they would love to go back.
