Team members at Castlemead Court Care Home in Newport Pagnell, Nicky and Debbie recently completed an impressive virtual walk equivalent to the distance between Land’s End and John O’Groats.
Debbie and Nicky took on the challenge separately and didn’t know they were both taking part in the same challenge until they had completed it. But individually, they completed the walk in different ways and for different reasons.
For Nicky, she took on the challenge to tick it off her bucket list and earn a medal for her efforts, whilst Debbie thought it would be an enjoyable way to stay active and healthy.
In lunch breaks, during weekends, and other spare time, Debbie and Nicky would get out for a walk and complete as many miles as they could in the time they had. With residents and friends cheering them on, they had the support and motivation they needed to keep on going!
Over the course of a few months, Nicky and Debbie persevered with the challenge and in November 2023, Debbie completed the distance by walking 1083.4 miles! Nicky wasn’t far behind and completed the same distance in early December.
They were both very proud of their achievements and were delighted when their medals arrived in the post! They proudly posed for a picture together at Castlemead and began discussing what challenge they would take on next!
Debbie has now taken on a challenge to walk the equivalent distance to the North Pole, which is a total of 800 miles, whilst Nicky has opted to take on the Route 66 challenge from Chicago to Los Angeles, which is a total of 2280.3 miles!
Good luck Nicky and Debbie, we will all be cheering you on.
