Residents at Hunters Down Care Home were recently visited by the children’s choir from St John’s CE Primary School who came to sing some Christmas Carols.
Residents were visited by the same choir last Christmas and it was a huge success! Everyone enjoyed hearing the children sing some festive songs and hearing all their Christmas wishes!
Intergenerational activities like this always have a positive effect on people’s wellbeing, especially at Christmas time. It allows residents who don’t have children in their family to spend time with the younger generation and experience some of the excitement and childhood joy they have over the festive period.
When the children arrived, they headed to the lounge where many people had already taken their seats in anticipation for the performance. After saying their hello’s, the choir began to warm up their voices, raising smiles amongst members of the audience.
The choir then began their performance, singing many well-known Christmas songs and carols. The reaction from residents was priceless – they were all smiling from cheek to cheek, some even joined in and sang along with the choir.
During their performance, the choir also sang ’12 days of Christmas’ complete with the dance moves, which many residents joined in with too! It was another successful session, which boosted wellbeing and festive cheer at Hunters Down.
To say thank you to the choir for another wonderful performance, residents gave each member a small chocolate treat and wished them a very Merry Christmas.
