The Lifestyle Coordinators at Queens Oak Care Home in Peckham had a wonderful helper when preparing for their Care Home Open Day: brand-new resident Joan!
Joan became a member of the Queens Oak family last week and has slowly been settling into the home. Joan loves keeping busy and getting involved in tasks when she can, so when she asked to help with event preparation the Lifestyle Coordinators welcomed her with open arms.
Joan and her daughter Kim, who was visiting, set up shop in the activities room with the team. Joan was put in charge of laminating some of the decorations; a job she was incredibly proud of. Joan, along with daughter Kim and Lifestyle Coordinator Sue worked together like a well-oiled machine: Kim would put the papers in the lamination sheets, Joan would laminate, and Sue would cut out the laminations when she was done.
Kim could see that her mum was absolutely in her element, telling the team that “This is what mum loves; helping out.” Joan spent the whole day assisting the team; it was clear that she really didn’t want to leave!
When all the decorations were laminated, Joan was so proud of herself, saying “I’ve done all my work today” with a smile on her face.
Lifestyle Coordinators Sue and Marilyn were so grateful for the help, thanking Joan for her excellent work. Joan is such a welcome addition to the home, and they can tell that she will fit right in!
