The people living at Goldenley Care Home hopped back in time this week when Lifestyle Coordinator, Faith hosted a reminiscence session.
Faith’s mum sadly passed away recently so it’s been a challenging time for her, but having her colleagues and the residents by her side to support her has been very comforting.
Faith recently visited the bungalow where her mum lived to gather some of her belongings and during the visit, saw her crop of hops was still growing in the garden. This brought back many memories for Faith, so she decided to pick a bunch and take it to Goldenley to show the residents and aid with reminiscence. She also found a picture of her mum and nan picking hops, so she took that with her too.
During the reminiscence session, Faith passed around the bunch of hops and the picture. This immediately brought back memories for people, as lots of the people living at Goldenley used to go hop-picking with their families. Val, a resident at Goldenley said she remembers going with her nan and the place looked very similar to one the one in Faith’s photograph.
Lots of other people enjoyed looking at the hops, feeling the texture of them and recalling their personal stories. Audrey said it was hard work but has lots of happy memories of going with her family.
Hearing these stories also provided comfort for Faith and meant she could connect with people over something that held fond memories for her too.
It was a wonderful day of sharing memories and family stories.
