If you walked into The Willows Care Home recently, you may have seen each and every person wearing wacky and wonderful hats. This was because the team organised their own ‘wear a hat day’ to raise smiles around the home.
After the success of other themed days at the home, Operations Support Manager Justyna decided to host the day and encouraged residents to get their favourite hats and wear them on October 18th. Justyna wasn’t sure how many people would take part, but when she came into The Willows on hat day she was delighted to see so many people taking part.
Residents had picked out their favourite hats from their collections, whilst team members decided to go a bit bolder with their choices.
Throughout the day, people were tipping their hats to each other, and many interesting conversations were had about the hats they were wearing. Seeing so many people in hats also inspired others to get involved, prompting some stories to be shared about the sentimental value their hats hold.
Later in the day, the home had a visit from Little Hooves, Big Memories. This company work with therapy ponies to boost mood and wellbeing amongst the people they visit. Oreo and Blue the two horses chosen to visit The Willows and because they arrived on hat day, it was only right that Oreo and Blue got involved too.
They raised many smiles around the home in their hats and certainly boosted wellbeing, as it’s not everyday you see a horse in a hat!
It was a memorable day at The Willows and the team can't wait to host another dress up day again soon.
