The people living at Goldenley Care Home were recently delighted to receive a donation from United in Kind containing knitted items called ‘Hug in a shrug’.
United in Kind is a charity based in Essex that helps to connect communities by spreading kindness. They have donated to Goldenley many times in the past which the people who live there always appreciate.
The latest delivery of knitted items were different from the ones they have previously received, as a ‘hug in a shrug’ aims to deliver a virtual hug using a knitted item that is placed over a person's shoulders. This helps to provide warmth and care knowing they have been hand-knitted by volunteers in the community. These special gestures go a long way in providing residents with a boost to their wellbeing and an all-important smile!
Hilda, who lives at Goldenley, said it was a wonderful idea. Hilda recently received the news that her brother had passed away, so this hug in a shrug is exactly what she needed to help provide some comfort. She said it was wonderful to know someone in the community is thinking about her.
United in Kind has since been in touch to say they look forward to helping spread some cheer in person when they are allowed to visit Goldenley, but until then, they will continue to spread smiles from a distance with these wonderful gestures.
Thank you to all the volunteers at United in Kind for make continuing to brighten the days of the people we care for! Your help and support is always appreciated!
