Iris lives at Goldenley Care Home in Benfleet, Essex and recently stunned the team and her friends when she spontaneously started to play the piano.
Iris used to play the piano many years ago but fell out of love with it and stopped playing. The team at Goldenley always encourage people to continue their hobbies, as it helps to provide comfort and can encourage reminiscence. But on this occasion, Iris needed no prompt from the team to step up and start playing again.
It was wonderful to see Iris reconnecting with a hobby from the past and enjoying it again, so Lifestyle Coordinator, Faith, brought out two piano books for Iris to read and play.
Iris’ family have shared lots of stories with the team about her piano playing days, but haven’t seen her do this for a long time, so they were delighted to hear she was back on the keys and playing music!
Iris is a very active lady who likes to spend time walking, so seeing her take the time to relax and play the piano was pleasing for the team to see.
The team and the other people living at Goldenley really enjoyed the music she played. It was so beautiful and moving to watch, some people in the home even shed a tear.
The team hope that Iris continues this hobby and keeps filling the home with her music!
