Team members at Excelcare homes across the group, always encourage relatives and friends to be involved with their loved ones care. It can provide a valuable boost in wellbeing when they visit and always helps people to settle in to life with Excelcare.
Liz is a resident at Goldenley Care Home. She’s a very family orientated lady and loves it when they stop by! However, most of her family live in Ireland so it’s difficult to see them regularly.
But she received a very welcome surprise this week, when they took a flight and came to visit her. Her son came with a lovely bunch of flowers and it was a heart-warming moment as they both reconnected.
To celebrate the occasion, Liz and her family went through to the pub lounge they have at Goldenley, sat, caught up and enjoyed a light tipple together. There were moments on laughter and some more emotional, but an overall air of appreciation and happiness.
As Liz sat with her family, she proudly introduced them to some of her friends as they passed and spoke about the recent weeks at Goldenley, especially the activities she’s enjoyed.
After an enjoyable day together, Liz said farewell to her family as they had to travel back to Ireland. Before leaving though, her son caught up with a team member at the home and said how well she looked. He was also happy to see they had started St Patrick ’s Day preparations at the care home and saw some of the hats that his mum had been making.
Liz was thrilled that her family had stopped by, especially un-announced, which provided a noticeable boost to her wellbeing and happiness. It was also refreshing for team members to hear that her family were pleased with the environment and care provided, motivating them to continue improving and tailoring their person-centred approach.
