It was National Best Friends Day on Tuesday 8th June, and the people living at Etheldred House Care Home in Cambridge gathered to talk about their best friends and why they are so important.
Everyone thought that this topic of conversation was incredibly pertinent this year, as people have needed their friends more than ever due to the difficult year we’ve all had. During their discussion, they praised modern technology, and the fact that you can now keep up with your friends from around the world, even if you aren’t together.
The people at the home started talking about how you can make good friends in your life no matter your age. Honor strongly agreed, saying that she met Joan when she came to Etheldred House and they are very attached now. It is good to have a best friend as you can tell them anything without judgement, and then can help you through any problems you may have.
They also delved into the topic of different best friends that they’ve had in their lives. Many started to harken back to school days and wondered what their best friends from school are up to now. Others stated that anyone can be your best friend, and Norman strongly agreed with this, sharing that his mum was his best friend.
The day ended with a virtual music performance by Alex Southgate, who serenaded them as they danced together on this sunny, warm day. Dancing, smiles and laughter were shared, and it was the perfect end to a very heart-warming discussion.
