Since ‘lockdown restrictions’ were enforced earlier this year, we have seen and been a part of some wonderful schemes to help maintain wellbeing amongst frontline team members and those living in Excelcare care homes.
One of these schemes was the ‘Rainbow Trail of hope’. This involved people leaving rainbow inspired art in their windows and other public places around the UK, so during walks and trips outside, passing people could be inspired with messages of hope and a dash of colour to brighten their day.
This was well received by residents and team members across the group because of the positive effect it had on wellbeing, so the rainbow theme was extended to other projects at the homes.
The rainbow corner project was one of them, which saw homes collaborate with the residents to create colourful corners that would house internal social occasions with friends and ‘through the window’ talks with loved ones.
The latest home to create their very own rainbow corner was Etheldred House. Marjorie, a resident who lives in the Pear house suite at the home, wanted to help create the colourful corner. She painted some blue poppies to decorate the area, while Lynda Suffell, painted a bench and fence area to form the rainbow corner.
The blue poppies painted by Marjorie, were created in support of the Blue Poppie Appeal, set up to remember those impacted by the virus and celebrate the work of frontline teams. Once the paint had dried, the blue poppies were added to the fence and looked great against the bright backdrop.
This new area is a very inviting space where those living at the home can go for some quiet time, to socialise with friends or house distanced reunions with family members.
