Dorothy grew up in North London where she lived with her sister, father and stepmother. She used to spend a lot outside, playing in the garden or going for long walks.
Dorothy says her stepmother was very strict and didn’t like her going out in the evening dancing, so instead, she spent lots of time doing arts and crafts and painting. This soon became Dorothy’s favourite hobby and she got very good at it too!
When Dorothy was in her twenties, she joined an art class, where she painted landscapes and visited many different places to paint and draw them with her group.
Some years later, Dorothy met a man, not knowing this would be her future husband. After their relationship developed, they happily married and had three children together Robert, Stephen and David.
Throughout her life, Dorothy collected some of the paintings and crafts that she made. Now living at Hunters Down Care Home in Cambridge, Dorothy has many of these paintings on display in her bedroom. It’s a hobby she continues to this day and team members enjoy watching her make wonderful works of art during arts and crafts sessions at the home.
Dorothy said her favourite places in the world are France and Germany. She has many fond memories of going up the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Her other favourite things include Fish and Chips and watching the film, ‘Gone with the wind’.
