Today, we are sharing the story of Alex and Carol: a married couple who, with the help of the Buchan House Care Home team, were able to find their way back to each other.
Alex and Carol fell in love many years ago when they worked together. Alex was a Zoological Scientist for sea creatures and insects, and Carol was his assistant. They used to travel to many different countries together for work.
Alex moved into Buchan House last December. Carol had been acting as his carer, but unfortunately, she had become poorly and could no longer look after him.
The transition was difficult at first, as they have been happily married for over 60 years and had never been apart until then. However, the team at Buchan worked to ease the transition and make sure they could keep in contact.
After spending some time in hospital, Carol was assigned to a Care Home in Huntingdon. As you can imagine, this was not ideal for the loving couple, so the team at Buchan House leapt into action. They worked hard together with social services and their family to see if they could reunite the two loves.
That hard work paid off, and in time Carol was assigned a room at Buchan House! The pair were overjoyed and didn’t even mind that Carol first had to quarantine for 14 days due to COVID-19 precautions, as they said just knowing that they were in the same building gave them comfort. The excitement over those 14 days continued to build, and the team likened the two of them to children waiting for their presents on Christmas Day.
When the day finally came, Alex went to Carol’s room to see her in person for the first time in over a year. The joy on their faces said it all, and there was not a dry eye from any of the team members that witnessed the reunion.
The team at Buchan House are so happy that they were able to help reunite Carol and Alex and are glad that the happy couple are together once more.
