It’s the simple things that make the residents at Ashlyn happy. Above all else, spending time with the team members, friends and their families is encouraged as memories and special moments can last a lifetime!
The residents at Ashlyn Care Home did just that last week. After a morning of pampering and relaxing, the team members set up a communal game of catch in the lounge. Although this has many benefits, team members arranged the activity to bring everyone together for a group game and to socialise with their friends. This is really important, as it keeps people connected and strengthens relationships at the care home.
As the residents had a nice chilled out morning, they were all energised and excited for the session. As the residents have differing levels of vision, the team used a large orange ball with black hexagons, as the colour contrast makes it easy for everyone to see.
As the residents threw the ball to each other, they were chatting and reacting as the ball occasionally hit the floor. During their conversations, connected memories from playing catch were shared, including some from their childhood and some from their children’s younger years. Although a simple game, everyone enjoyed testing their throwing and catching skills and laughing with their friends.
It was a brilliant day at Ashlyn. Not only did the residents have an enjoyable day with their friends, but also exercised their physical and cognitive functions.
