The people living at Brook House Care Home in Cambridge experienced a little taste of nature indoors by looking through a bag filled with Autumn leaves.
Everybody loved going through the leaves and observing the different colours that the leaves had changed to. Whilst discussing them, Connie noted that “In spring and summer we have colour throughout with the beautiful flowers. In autumn, when those flowers have died, the trees give us colour.” Connie then pointed at the window and told everyone that she sits in the seat by the window most days and has enjoyed watching the trees over the weeks change colour. She thinks that they look wonderful at the moment but knows that they will look very bare soon.
While talking about trees, everyone tried to name as many trees as possible. As a group, they did pretty well and came up with quite an extensive list. However, once they looked up the different species’ online, they were astounded to see just how many different types of tree there really are!
After this, everyone chose leaves from the bag that really stood out to them and arranged them into a bouquet that was tied together with ribbon. Each leaf was unique, and the residents loved the final bouquets, noting how striking they looked once they were altogether.
All of the bouquets were placed in the reception area so they could be admired by all.
