Just two miles east of Cambridge's historic city centre, Brook House is a small, friendly care home with a bright, welcoming setting.
Offering respite and long-term residential and end of life care, we pride ourselves on making the people who live here feel special through putting their care and needs at the heart of what we do.
Our compassionate and kind team members, many of whom live in Cambridge, Newmarket and Waterbeach, work closely with residents, and their loved ones, in order to truly understand their likes, dislikes and preferences – enabling them to deliver person-centred care and supporting residents to have an enjoyable high quality of life, every day.
Our Home
Services and Support
Brook House is a small 35-bed care home with a team dedicated to supporting residents to lead happy, comfortable lives.
The intimate facilities and sunny environment in our family-run home, make it a positive place to live, with a calm and friendly atmosphere that comes from being part of such a close-knit community.
With four care suites over two floors, all areas of our home are accessible via a lift, and with a number of lounges, dining rooms and communal spaces there are a variety of spaces to enjoy.
When it comes to mealtimes, our dining rooms are filled with anticipation and excitement as it is one of the highlights of the day.
Our brilliant in-house chef's design menus around residents’ likes, dislikes, allergies and adventurousness. The delicious meals they create reflect everyone’s taste, dietary needs and cultural preferences, from fish and chips to spicy curries. All our cakes and biscuits are also baked in-house, perfect for an afternoon catch-up over a pot of tea with family and friends.
For those who enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle, our bedrooms, many of which overlook the gardens, are the perfect place to sit and relax. Surrounded by their personal belongings, residents are encouraged to make the space their own with photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture, if they wish.
As a small and inclusive home, Brook House makes sure residents have a big say in what goes on and how they are cared for.
Our kind team members spend time getting to know the people who live with us, as well as those closest to them, so the care and support they provide is tailored to each individual whilst being flexible to how someone’s condition progresses or how they are feeling at the time of us offering care.
This, in turn, supports residents to remain as independent as possible whilst spending their days doing to the things they love.
We understand for many people, living in a care home is completely different to what they are used to. With this in mind, we are keen to support residents to maintain ties with their local community as well as being able to keep precious pets that have provided companionship prior to their move.
For those residents who prefer the benefits of pet therapy, rather than the responsibility of being an owner, our home cat Tiggy, and visiting dog Shanty, are there for a welcomed cuddle – a highlight for many of us!
We’re proud of the happy, friendly home we have created where there is always something going on to enjoy.
Working with our Lifestyle Coordinator, residents are actively involved in choosing activities and events that they want to take part in, from trips to museums and nearby garden centres to in-house visits from the luxury Pauline May clothing shop.
They can explore their creative side in arts and craft classes, join our chatty book club or put their vocal cords to the test in our weekly singing sessions with team members and visitors joining in.
Our chair-based exercise classes support on-going fitness and wellbeing and regular visits from entertainers, artists, pet therapy dogs and members of our local community, who join in our fun events, ensures there’s plenty going on to choose from.
For those who enjoy a spot of light gardening, our mature, leafy gardens, with their colourful flower beds, vegetable plot and fruit trees, provide the ideal space in which to spend time in the great outdoors – collecting and growing fruit and vegetables, which are transformed into delicious homemade pies and cakes in our kitchens.
Brook House is set close to the centre of the historical city of Cambridge, with its wide range of shopping, cafés, restaurants, pubs, daily market and cultural opportunities. You can easily reach the centre and railway station by the Citi 2 bus, which stops a five-minute walk from our home.
We are within a 15-minute drive of the A14 and M11 too, with access to the A10, A11 and A428 for East Anglia, the Midlands and London.
Getting out for an interesting day trip is easy, as Brook House is a short drive to stunning Ely, Newmarket and Huntingdon, as well as the majestic mansions of Wimpole Hall and Ickworth House, and lovely Thetford Forest a little further afield.
