The people living at Aliwal Manor Care Home in Cambridge really enjoy a game of Bingo. However, the bag that the used to hold the Bingo balls has unfortunately seen better days.
Sarah, the Lifestyle Coordinator at the home, mentioned this to Maureen – a resident and avid knitter. Hearing this, Maureen very kindly offered to knit a new bag to keep the balls in. Sarah supplied Maureen with the wool and needles and Maureen got to work. She managed to greet Sarah with such a nice surprise when she came in the next day to see two large knitted rectangles that were ready to be sewn together to make a new Bingo ball bag! Sarah knew straight away that Ann, another resident, would be the perfect person to sew up the bag, and Ann was thrilled to help out.
The next day, Lisa – the Team Leader – was talking to Maureen and Ann about how some people had started making knitted straps to make face masks more comfortable. On hearing this, Ann and Maureen got to work on a new project, and the knitted straps were on the table the following day, ready for use.
The time and effort that has gone into their knitting is so greatly appreciated, and the team at Aliwal Manor are incredibly grateful to Ann and Maureen for all the items they have knitted for them. Ann and Maureen have both been passionate knitters for most of their lives. The Bingo bag was a great chance to reignite their shared passion and is now a great conversation starter every time they play Bingo.
