Residents of Winifred Dell Care Home were recently invited to attend a new musical group in their local community called ‘Singing For The Brain’.
This group has been set up by volunteers, with the aim of delivering enjoyable musical experiences to people who live with dementia, whilst providing a place where they can socialise with like-minded others.
The team hosts many different types of musical activities at Winifred Dell Care Home. They find musical activities are well received by the people who live there and provide a boost to personal wellbeing. Musical afternoons also encourage people to get up on their feet, or sing and dance along from their chairs, which has lots of benefits to a person’s health and mood.
When the team received an invite to attend Havering Singing for the Brain, they immediately accepted. Residents were excited to venture into the community, meet new people, and show off their dance moves.
When they arrived at the venue, residents and team members were delighted to see some familiar faces hosting the class. Two of the volunteers leading the group regularly visit Winifred Dell and provide musical entertainment, so people took the time to say hello and have a quick catch-up before taking their seats.
Throughout the afternoon a range of different songs were played, and snacks and hot drinks were served. The team said it was wonderful to see residents meeting new people and singing along to the music from their chairs.
After a long but enjoyable day, the people living at Winifred Dell all agreed that they would like to go back to Singing for the Brain soon.
