Monday afternoon at Winifred Dell Care Home in Brentwood was spent celebrating the Hindu festival, Diwali.
The team at Winifred Dell take part in different religious celebrations throughout the year and encourage people of all faiths and backgrounds to take part and learn about other people’s cultures. There are also people living and working at Winifred Dell who have all different beliefs, so these events allow them to celebrate days that hold lots of personal meaning.
The recent festival of Diwali was one the team and residents had been looking forward to celebrating, as the day is usually filled with bright colours, good food and lots of light!
Bharati is a carer at Winifred Dell who follows the Hindu faith, so this was an incredibly special celebration for her. To ensure Diwali could be celebrated in the most authentic way, she helped to arrange the event by organising some traditional homecooked meals and bringing some decorations to put in the cinema room, where the celebrations were set to take place.
To make the day more exciting, the team invited a dancer to come and perform and a playlist of songs was created to immerse everyone in the Diwali celebrations.
Friends and family were invited to join in with the celebrations at Winifred Dell so the energy in the room was electric. The bright colour scheme, decorations and dress wear were truly sights to behold.
When the traditional food was served, everyone was excited to try it as it looked and smelt delightful. After tasting the dishes, they agreed it was all delicious!
The music, singing, dancing and food made this a memorable event and one that everyone enjoyed being a part of. It was a lovely occasion to come together, celebrate culture and gave everyone the opportunity to be a part of such an important worldwide event.
