It was a big day at Queens Oak Care Home in London recently, as resident Cotilda (known as Tilda or Tiny) celebrated her 100th birthday!
In honour of the monumental birthday, Tilda’s son worked together with Lifestyle Coordinator Marilyn to plan a surprise party for Tilda’s big day.
They began by decorating the garden beautifully in rose pink, white and gold. Then, Tilda’s family were sat in it, awaiting her big arrival. When Tilda emerged, her family, friends and the team at the home all joined together to sing a hearty rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ by Stevie Wonder. Tilda was incredibly thrilled and surprised by this wonderful gesture and sang along with them, moving her body along with the music.
Tilda’s family brought in a variety of treats to make the day special, ranging from drinks, to chocolate, to fruit and, of course, a big, beautiful birthday cake. As well as this, Tilda was presented with a card and telegraph that had been signed by the Queen, which made her very happy. She even kissed the card joyfully as it was so special to her.
The party went on even after her family left, with residents and team members happy to keep celebrating alongside Tilda. As the day wound down to a close, Tilda said that it was a “beautiful day” which she “will never forget”.
